Born and raised in Manhattan, the legendary Roy Lichtenstein was a leading figure of Pop Art, widely known for his comic strip-style paintings full of tongue-in-cheek humor, as well as his parodies of other noted artists and genres. His consistent style was immediately accessible and soon became globally recognizable. Roy Lichtenstein: A Retrospective displays over one hundred popular paintings, drawings, and sculptures from throughout Lichtenstein’s career. The first large-scale showcase of his art since his death in 1997, this tribute to the king of pop contains a great deal of Lichtenstein’s life work—including early work in an abstract-expressionist style.
